The 2014 exhibition was held on Saturday August 16th, at the Webber Independent School, Milton Keynes.
The show featured 21 exhibition layouts, ranging in scale from miniscule Z to an outdoor “Ride on” railway. Support was provided by 14 traders, catering to a wide variety of hobby requirements.
There were layouts based on prototypes from Europe and Japan, as well as Great Britain, set in a variety of timescales.
As was customary in past years, the current Mayor of Milton Keynes was invited to formally open the show. This year Mr. Subhan Shafiq officiated, after which he inspected the exhibits before choosing the “Best Visiting Layout”.
The Mayor presented the cup to Darren Bilcock for his British outline 00 gauge layout “Lynth Haven”.
One exhibit which attracted considerable interest was staged by our own club members. This was a working demonstration, featuring one of the two twin-track helix modules which will be incorporated into our N gauge club layout. For the show, we connected the top and bottom of the helix to temporary loops of track laid on adjoining upper and lower baseboards. This enabled visitors to see two trains simultaneously climbing and descending the helix under DCC control, each full circuit taking nearly five minutes!
Once again, the show proved a great success, with overall attendance of around 700, slightly up on the previous year. This has encouraged us to press forward with plans for the 2015 show, which will be held on Saturday August 15th at the Woughton Centre , off Chaffron Way, Milton Keynes.
